A little bit Bonnie Raitt, Joni and Joplin with guitar skills and no fear of belting one out - that's what you get with Ellen McIlwaine. She missed the boat in the late sixties - maybe all that clean Canadian air kept her out of Los Angeles, and the spotlight, either way she's not as well known as her contemporaries (as John Martyn is to Nick Drake) but still there's something she captured of the time in her voice and guitar. I only wish the audience was a little more enthusiastic. ("oh, is it time to clap?")
