Greg Brown's voice may be down and dirty, but his lyrics and guitar playing will pick you up and drop you back down into a beautiful summer in America, a summer we wish we all knew. Greg Brown is as much a storyteller as musician and you really get a sense of who he is listening to his songs, moreso than many other songwriters. You can't help but think that these songs are all basically about him, "Canned Goods" included - he's talking about his own family, right? He can't just be making this stuff up.
